Conference Information
Conference History
The International Conference on the Physics of Semiconductors is a series of biennial meetings that began in 1950 and it takes place under the auspices of the Semiconductor Commission (C8) of the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics (IUPAP). This conference has been the main forum in the field, and has taken place in many countries. The most recent meeting took place in Vienna in 2006 (www.icps2006.at) and had over 1200 participants. The 2008 issue will be held in Rio de Janeiro between July 27th and August 1st.
Conference Topics
The conference will cover all aspects of semiconductor physics including: growth, surfaces and interfaces, bulk, defects and impurities, wide-band-gap semiconductors, molecular systems and organic semiconductors, heterostructures, quantum wells, superlattices, quantum Hall effect, nanostructures: two- one- and zero-dimensional systems, semiconductor quantum electrodynamics, quantum information and processing, spin - related phenomena, applications and devices, new materials, concepts and techniques and carbon based materials.
Nobel Prize Recipients Symposium
On Sunday July 27th a Nobel Prize Recipients Symposium, chaired by Marvin Cohen and open to the public, will take place at the ICPS conference site. The confirmed laureates are: Alan Heeger (USA) , Klaus Von Klitzing (Germany), Robert Laughlin (USA), and Charles Townes (USA).

IUPAP Award
Additionally, during the ICPS, IUPAP will grant a newly created Young Scientist Prize in Semiconductor Physics (YSP-SP) to two outstanding young scientists which should attract more participants.
Vendor Participation
Your company can participate in the 29th ICPS in three different ways:
- Vendor exhibit.
- Sponsoring a conference event (cocktail, coffee-break,…)
- Distribution of advertising material for all participants.
Vendor Exhibit:
The vendor exhibit area will take place very close to the parallel session rooms, where the participants will be most of the time. There are three different vendor area spaces: 9 m2, 12 m2 and 16 m2. Each of them will have individual light spot (one each 3 m2), one 110V/300W electrical outlet, one bookstand, one square table and two chairs. The exhibition starts on July 27th and ends on July 31st. The assembly time will be in the morning of the first day (27th) and disassembling will be late afternoon on the 31th.
